Then, build your floor structure on top of this floor plan, using your lines and dimensions as reference points. Then use the line tool to draw where the walls are. Use the tape measure tool to create reference points and intersections. I like to create a rectangle of the largest dimension I’ll need, then “cut out” the other dimensions from that. If you have some fixed dimensions you’re working with, now is a great time to just create a 2D floor plan (separate from the rectangle we made in tip #1). So by having a false floor group directly behind where you’re most commonly zooming, it will prevent some of those accidental zoom spikes. The further away the object is, the faster the zoom rate. The closer the camera is to the object your mouse is over, the slower the zoom increment. ![]() Sketchup zooms progressively based off of what you’re mouse pointer is hovering over. Have you ever been zooming in to a small detail on your model, and accidentally moved your mouse pointer off of the detail and zoomed WAY past it and gotten all screwed up? Having a “floor” in place will prevent some of that from happening. It provides a flat reference point for using the tape measure tool and it keeps you from accidentally zooming in past your model. It’s just there to help you navigate easier. You don’t need to push/pull it or anything. Make it about twice as big as your expected working area, and turn it into a group. I didn’t hit pause when I made a mistake, I just went with it. I wanted to create a video that showed you exactly how I would approach a project like this in Sketchup. In this case, you can use Sketchup to build a house in the same way you’d build it in real life one board at a time. But what if you wanted to build a structure in real life? I hollow box isn’t really going to provide you with any real valuable information. Then they might add some windows and doors to make it look more realistic. They start with a rectangle, push/pull it up, add a ridge and move it up to make a roof. When most people start out with Sketchup, they usually begin by building a house. It was entirely unplanned, so you’ll see some things I tripped up on, but in general you’ll learn a little bit about the methods I use when creating residential structures in Sketchup. This time, I thought it would be cool to just record my screen as I created a small addition using Sketchup. Usually, I’ll create step by step videos showing how to do something in Sketchup. We demonstrate two integrative analyses that are greatly simplified by SingleCellMultiModal. We present the SingleCellMultiModal R/Bioconductor package that provides single-command access to landmark datasets from seven different technologies, storing datasets using HDF5 and sparse arrays for memory efficiency and integrating data modalities via the MultiAssayExperiment class. In this manuscript, we review major classes of technologies for collecting multimodal data including genomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, proteomics, and spatial information at the level of single cells. Experimental data packages that provide landmark datasets have historically played an important role in the development of new statistical methods in Bioconductor by lowering the barrier of access to relevant data, providing a common testing ground for software development and benchmarking, and encouraging interoperability around common data structures. While the distinguishing features of some screens are integrated into the screen itself, others are more of a function of your camera or cameras. Many manufacturers offer longer cables upon request. Standard cables usually measure 18 to 20 feet, so if your vehicle is longer, the cable may not reach all the way to the back. Video cableĭash cameras are often integrated with the screen fixture, but rear camera videos must be transmitted through a cable. Either way, check the measurements of your mirror to make sure the screen you choose is a good fit. Strap-on models are usually less expensive, but the straps may fail over time, especially if you live in a warm climate. Others strap onto the factory mirror using heavy-duty plastic straps. Many mirrors securely screw into your existing mirror post. Both screen sizes display the same wide viewing angle, but the image itself varies. Smaller screens are less expensive and allow you to use the mirror to supervise young children in rear seats. Other screens project a smaller image, which allows you to use the uncovered portion as a traditional rearview mirror. Some rearview mirror screens display an image as large as your factory mirror, and they often give you an unobstructed view that is clearer than a reflection. In an accident, dash camera video can provide evidence that helps determine fault and can provide important details such as the make, model, and license plate number of a car. Most experts advise, though, that high resolution is more important in a dash camera than in a rear camera. Budget-priced rearview cameras may only take VGA-quality video. Some sets transmit full HD video (1080p) from both dash and rear cameras others relay full HD from the front and 720p from the rear. Resolution is a big factor if you’re getting a screen that includes a camera. Screen quality is important, but it can only display the image transmitted by the camera. This screen-only option lets you customize, but this is usually more costly in the end. Others may include just a high-quality screen and require you to find a compatible camera. A handful of them offer only the screen and a rear camera. Some packages include an LCD screen as well as both dash and rear cameras. When you’re looking at rearview mirror screens, you need to know what you’re getting. Since the camera is mounted in the rear of your vehicle, it eliminates obstructions like headrests and pillars from your view. They’ll make an ironic comment like, “Oh yeah, Bono, trying to save the world. ![]() But in the context of being around other people, they might not admit it. SC: Now, aren’t there some bars in Portland where, if you say you like Springsteen and U2, you’ll get beaten up?īS: Portland’s very hip, but people really do like that stuff. It makes me think you don’t actually write a song, it comes to you and you’re lucky to grab it out of the air. But it’s interesting when you hit upon these things, that you find they are really universal. Except in spring when this happens, and this happens.” It ties in with that tradition – it’s not conscious, like you sit down and say I want to write a song like this. Or there’s that Frank Sinatra song, “I Get Along Without You Very Well” where he spends the whole time saying, “I get along without you very well. ![]() That’s an easy way to get away with, being ironic. You hear the melody and you know it emotionally.īS: That song comes a lot from certain songs, like that Bob Dylan song “Mama You’ve Been On My Mind”, where there’s a counterpoint in what’s being said lyrically and what’s meant. SC: “Lately” is one of those songs that almost doesn’t need lyrics. And it’s different for every person, for every listener. And there’s a definite fine line between being direct and overdoing it. And people are afraid to come across as cheese-y – “If I expose myself too much maybe people are going to think that’s corny.” So I think a lot of people are always trying to cover their tracks, or trying to be clever where they should be direct. It takes a little while to get into any song. I grapple with that feeling every time I sit down to write a song. SC: I like that, the idea of “going deep” into a song. From there I got all the Nelson Riddle stuff, In the Wee Small Hours, and the Billy Mays stuff. Okay, so there’s not only the swaggering side of Sinatra, there’s this really deep side where he’s able to get so deep into a song – I don’t even know another singer that can get that deep into a song. In particular they were talking about that record Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely, and I went out and got that and it blew my mind. But I was reading this book about recording studios – both Benjamin and I are really into that kind of stuff – and it was about the great recording studios in history, and there was a section devoted to Capitol Records, and the studios they used. It’s like that scene in This is Spinal Tap, where the limo driver tries to lecture the band in the backseat, “When you’ve lived and loved like Sinatra has,” and they turn him off by closing the window.īS: I’ve always known of Sinatra. ![]() And a lot of people might say oh it’s so old and sappy and sentimental. Lately I’ve been hugely into Frank Sinatra. A lot of Keep Your Eyes Ahead was me coming to terms with music like that, and not being afraid of it. I think U2 and Bruce Springsteen are amazing. But they’re universal because they’re true. So they’re speaking a lot in universals.Īnd universals can sound trite a lot of times. There are aspects of U2 and Bruce Springsteen that are over the top, but you’ve got to realize they’re speaking to an audience that’s gigantic. That’s one of the inhibiting factors of anybody getting into music, or getting to the core of any music, is if they’re afraid of listening to something or afraid something can be cheesy and not willing to get close to something. It’s funny you mention the word “cheesy” because, over the years – I don’t even care what’s cheesy anymore. Are those names scary? Do you worry about coming across as cheesy?īrandon Summers: No. Shawn Conner: The new album, “Lately” especially, has all the bigness of U2 and Bruce Springsteen. But there’s more where that came from, as I discovered when I listened to the whole thing in preparation for my phone chat with the Portland band’s singer/guitarist, Brandon Summers. It was just too good, an epic of denial in the face of emotional catastrophe. The only problem was that, after I downloaded the thing, I couldn’t get past the first song, “Lately”.
